Looking for a Data Engineer to join the Global Technical Investigations team, within a world leading multinational tech companies Legal Department. This is an opportunity for an experienced coder or software engineer to design, architect, implement, and maintain tools and systems to help the GTI team to detect fraud and collect data from internal data sources and open-sourced intelligence.

The GTI has developed a variety of custom data tools that need to be maintained, and there are plans for additional tool development – all of which will aid investigators’ productivity and protect eBay users from cybercrime and fraud. The engineer will also support other Legal data, analytics, and eDiscovery projects, to the extent such projects require computer coding or software engineering expertise. 

What would my responsibilities be day to day?

  •  Maintain Java web GUI that enables non-technical users to generate on-demand reports from Teradata.  
  • Deploy, administer and build upon Solr search engine application. 
  • Maintain and administer Python-Tableau reporting framework and develop new reports based on the framework. 
  • Design, develop, implement, maintain and administer standalone Java and other applications to support Litigation and eDiscovery data-gathering. 
  • Write documentation for maintenance and system-administration purposes. 
  • Document and deliver user-support and user training. 
  • Recommend improvements to tools and processes to aid fraud investigations.

What Skills and Experience do I need?  

  • Experience must include the following: Java; Hibernate, Spring or similar frameworks; Eclipse; Jbc; Git; Python; HTML; Javascript and AJAX; Solr; relational databases; SQL; Linux system administration.
  • Experience with the following is a plus: Natural Language Processing (NLP) and textprocessing; Machine Learning; Hadoop; Data analytics; Tableau
  • Interest in Cybercrime Investigations, Brand Protection, Risk, Legal or related fields.
  • The applicant must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction and oversight; proficient in both written and verbal communication; demonstrate eBay Cultural Values ofbeing Courageous, Driven, Inventive, Diverse, and Delivering the Brand.
