Document Conversion Analyst / Developer

The role

You will be part of a cross-functional team, using Agile methodologies to deliver new requirements and improvements to a complex digital document management system for customers to author and deliver documents. Your work will focus on integrating our system with existing document management solutions by building transformation components that will allow us to cross-convert common generic formats such as Word, ODT and PDF and structured formats such as docbook, DITA or S1000D.  You'll have the opportunity to drive decisions and to contribute to a product beginning to gain significant traction in an exciting industry. You will be working as part of the Document and media Operations team alongside talented content managers, product managers, software engineers and UX / interface designers. Your work will focus on preparing customer source material for conversion to use in the software platform, quality-checking the outputs of our conversion process, and resolving issues to ensure acceptance.  
 
Key Responsibilities are:

Collect source material provided by our customer and making it ready for delivery to a third party to mark up the document to identify structures such as lists, images and tables
Inspecting source documents from the customer and identifying any features which need further review before they can be submitted for conversion
Basic editing of the source material to align the document conversion process
Investigate and handle verification errors and warnings generated by the content conversion process testing process
Diagnosing and fault information gathering - triage issues and analyses to enable process improvement in the conversion process
Maintenance and operations of pipeline test environment
Troubleshoot and fix problems caused by invalid data entry by content providers and vendors used
Responsive handling of late changes to content sets or metadata supplied
QA of media content
Work with Content Management team to coordinate all monthly asset requirements – grids, metadata, images, files etc and manage delivery
Verification of final delivery of final content builds
Assistance in the development of XML transformation pipelines
Suggesting improvements to our conversion process

Sounds interesting, what do I need to secure an interview? Well, you will have a qualification in technology, computer applications OR equivalent practical hands-on experience around software engineering (Java) and have some scripting language experience (i.e. Python) and experience manipulating, managing and converting enterprise-class documents to be put onto a computer platform or application. Ideally, you will have over 3 years commercial experience and have good knowledge of XML transformation and processing techniques, and exposure to associated toolsets and protocols such as XSLT, XProc, SAX, DOM, JAXP, Apache Camel, Apache NiFi etc.
