Thousands of jobs have been created over the last five years in the technology sector in Ireland. Between 2010 and 2015, the number of companies employing IT staff increased by 20%. Over the same period, 9,500 new jobs were created all over the country, culminating in 59,000 people employed in IT occupations in 2015.
These numbers were published recently by Solas showing an overview of employment trends. “The report quantifies our Irish economic recovery and highlights areas such as ICT where we see job massive creation. With improved job prospects across the sector, challenges with keeping up with demand are emerging”, stated Gerard Doyle, Managing Director of RECRUITERS.ie.
The report shows that 40% of employed software developers and programmers are non-Irish nationals. RECRUITERS.ie also recently reported that 10% of the IT jobs in Ireland are currently filled by Brazilians and the biggest proportion working as developers and programmers. Over 2,100 employment permits were issued to IT professionals from outside Europe last year, 35% of the total, and the numbers is increasing every year. In comparison with 2014, the number of work visas issued by the government rose by 25%.
The trend is continuing and in 2015 more than 7,000 IT jobs were advertised through Irish portals. RECRUITERS.ie continue to expand their IT recruitment division due to a very high demand for permanent and contract staff for the final quarter of 2016. Today, there are over 1,300 technology jobs advertised on just one Irish portal. “The demand is outstripping supply and employers are turning to contract and temporary staff to bridge the gaps”, revealed Doyle.
