Ireland is surrounded by an ocean full of talent

Having just hit a record week of new job announcements (more than 690 this week alone), we are awash and overflowing with career opportunities. We recruiters are lucky enough to witness the ever-growing expansion of our recruitment services outside the core, overstretched, urban Irish hubs.

This week alone, there have been major announcements in Limerick. We heard great news for the tech world with the L&D Centre of Excellence with Johnson & Johnson and new roles with Crowley-Carbon.

Looking to the beautiful, North-West coast, Sligo is making waves with an enormously exciting cluster of AI-focused organisations that are making large waves globally. They came together and have formed a high tech, supportive, balanced operative that is tempting further high-profile international companies to get a piece of the action.

It is our responsibility to ensure that these companies find the talent they need to thrive here in Ireland and to continuously offer Ireland as a superb place to live and do business.

It has been an education for our jobseekers to observe the sheer level of both tech and non-tech opportunities that are developing in less populated areas.

There are offerings of “no compromise career options” for high-calibre employees who are tiring of the endless difficulties of operating within some of our larger cities sadly outdated infrastructures. For anyone out there musing over the logic of a two-hour commute to work, you can be assured that employers are scrambling to pacify our workforce’s daily challenges of:

  • commuting to work
  • finding quality housing
  • securing educational options
  • a pressurised work-dominated schedule
  • comfortable surroundings

In fact, these aspects reflect their reasons for investing in more regional parts of Ireland. It’s clear to see that they are trying to bring the cruisy lifestyle of Silicon Valley to Ireland.

I’m yet to meet a candidate that doesn’t dream of a better work-life balance. An office pool table and an annoying ping pong (that is always hogged by ‘that guy’) only goes so far.

As I’ve interviewed people recently, I’ve noticed that more and more candidates are realising that they have both the capability and confidence to re-think, re-align and re-write what have been boring working norms and assumptions here in Ireland for years.

The entire island of Ireland is magnificent, each area is unique and confidence in regional areas as a place to return and work is growing.

Man Surfing wave
