At Recruiters.ie, we all agree that the environment is one of our key stakeholders. In line with our company value of "Drive", we are driven to improve the world we all live in by reducing the impact we, and our customers, have on the planet.
In January 2022, at our annual sales kick-off day, we committed to set a target to reach net-zero as part of our climate action plan. To put action behind words, we're proud to say that Recruiters.ie were approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) on March 17th, 2022 and is committed to a 1.5 degree Celsius science-based target in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement to avoid some of the deadly impacts of climate change.
We join just over 1,000 companies including Salesforce, SAP, and Atlassian in the Business Ambition for 1.5C campaign of our only future - a campaign underpinned by the SBTi.
We believe emissions reduction is critical because it aligns with our social impact action plan - the only recruitment agency in Ireland to have one.
Below is a summary of the process we went through to get approved over a number of months:

In line with our company values of "Honesty" and "Openness", we analysed and disclosed our annual emissions every year since 2018. Employing the services of Planetly, our in-house environment taskforce calculated our annual average based off office maintenance for all staff, heating & electricity consumption, staff commuting and more (see below).
We found that Recruiters.ie emits approximately 53 tonnes of CO2, broken down as follows:
We are offsetting 100% of our current CO2 emissions through our reforestation initiatives and our community involvement in cleaning beaches and waterways in Ireland.
We have already achieved net-zero operations, but we're on a mission to reduce our Greenhouse Gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and have committed to doing so through the Science-Based target initiative.
The Science-Based targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between CDP, We Mean Business, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
The SBTi defines and promotes best practices in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.
Science-based targets are emissions reduction targets in line with what the latest climate science says is needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.
Science-based targets are emissions reduction goals in line with what the latest climate science says is needed to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
Science-based targets show companies how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in order to be consistent with keeping warming below the most dangerous levels.
This isn't easy as a growing business, but as the first recruitment agency (and one of the first companies) in Ireland to do it, we can tell you we're going to give it everything we've got. And it's doable!
Said Gerard Doyle, RECRUITERS Co-Founder and Managing Director.
Galvanized by the historic Paris Agreement, the transition to a zero-carbon economy is underway and accelerating globally. Hundreds of corporations worldwide are preparing for the transition by setting emissions reduction targets grounded in climate science
The latest science has made it clear that more needs to be done - and faster- in order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change and secure a thriving, sustainable economy. The next few years are critical, and companies have a vital role to play in helping achieve transformation at the pace and scale that is needed.
Businesses taking science-based climate action benefit from greater opportunities for innovation, strengthened investor confidence and improved competitiveness
We are constantly looking at ways to collaborate more deeply with our customers and supply chain partners on climate change. One example of this is how we plant a tree in our client's name for every vacancy we fill with them. However, we know more needs to be done in educating our network and encouraging action.
We are asking our customers to join us on this journey to protect our planet and prioritize sustainability by committing to the principles laid out in our social impact strategy, including setting science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Even if you don't hire talent through us, or you use the services of our competitors, we are asking you to follow in our footsteps and do some good for every vacancy you fill.
Two of our values at Recruiters.ie is "Honestly" and "Openness". We know we're not going to get this right the first time. But we are committed to being open and honest about our journey and sharing what we learn with our business community.
If Recruiters.ie - an SME recruitment agency in Ireland - can take action, others can too. We hope that sharing our progress inspires other companies to set science-based targets.
The world is transitioning to a zero-carbon economy. More than 2,000 businesses and financial institutions are working with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reduce their emissions in line with climate science. Find out more about their targets and commitments.
