I’m partnering with a major Irish insurer to hire an In‑House Motor Engineer to join their Claims Vendor Management Team. This is a permanent role with strong benefits, a supportive culture, and the chance to influence how motor claims are handled nationwide.

Location: South Dublin, 2 days on site

Salary: €60,000

What is the role about:

You’ll be the go‑to technical expert supporting Claims Handlers with accurate, fair, and efficient assessments across private, commercial, and (occasionally) agricultural vehicles.

This is a desktop‑based role , no road work , where you’ll use your hands‑on repair knowledge to guide decisions, challenge repair costs, and ensure claims progress smoothly.

You’ll also play a key part in managing and auditing the insurer’s repair network and motor service providers, helping to drive quality, value, and continuous improvement.

  • Managing a portfolio of desktop assessments: accidental damage, image‑based reviews, pre‑theft valuations, and diminution opinions
  • Providing expert second opinions on complex or disputed claims
  • Supporting Claims Handlers with technical guidance and repair methodology
  • Producing regular reporting on performance: lifecycle, labour rates, inspection volumes, trends
  • Attending quarterly review meetings with key vendors
  • Working with the Motor Service Provider Co‑ordinator to audit repairers and assessing partners
  • Delivering training to Claims Handlers where processes can be improved

Your profile:

You don’t need to be a qualified assessor already they will support that. What matters most is real hands‑on experience and strong technical judgement.

Registered member of the Institute of Automotive Engineer Assessors (IAEA)

Essential

  • Solid hands‑on background in garages/bodyshops: mechanic, panel beater, bodyshop tech, strip & fit, workshop supervisor, etc.
  • Strong understanding of repair methods and vehicle construction
  • Ability to stand over decisions and challenge repairers confidently
  • Comfortable explaining technical issues to non‑technical colleagues
  • Good communication and reporting skills

Nice to have (not essential)

  • Experience with Audatex or other estimating systems
  • Experience with agricultural machinery
  • Previous assessing or insurance experience
  • IAEA membership (they will pay for this if you don’t have it)

Benefits Include

  • Competitive performance‑related bonus
  • Employer pension contributions
  • Private health insurance allowance
  • Paid maternity & paternity leave
  • Insurance discounts (car, home, travel)
  • Wellness wallet & wellbeing initiatives
